After months of paperwork, I feel I am almost at the finish line. I have finally collected all the required documents I need to get my E2-visa. I will be sending them to Lex Kim in Korea tomorrow. Once they receive my documents (6-10 days), they take it to the Korean Embassy to apply for my visa which should take 7-10 days, then they send me a confirmation number that I take to the nearest Korean Embassy or Consulate. They expect me to be in Korea in the beginning to middle of September. I will have a better idea and book a flight once they receive my documents.
At this time I am trying to prepare myself for my new life in Seoul. I have been shopping for business casual clothing for work and will need to do a lot of shopping for things I won't be able to find in Seoul. It is weird to think about how I will need to bring a 12 month supply of simple necessities like deodorant and tampons (apparently these items haven't caught on and are very difficult to find in South Korea).
I am extremely excited to be moving to Seoul. First, a little about my job (I wonder if this description will change once I am actually there). I am working at Lex Kim English School in Gangnam, Seoul. The school is an English after school, so my hours will be 1PM-9PM. I prefer this to the standard 7-3 here. The students range from 3rd-11th grade, and I will be teaching four, one hour classes, probably of different grades and different subjects. The students at the school are already fluent in English, so I won't be teaching English as a foreign language. Instead, I will be teaching subjects such as writing, reading, speech and grammar. The students usually come to the after school twice a week and take 2 courses a day, so it will be much different than teaching in the States.
While in Korea, I want to travel, but I also want to get involved in other activities. At the time, I am thinking that I want to find a Sunday soccer league or join a gym. Maybe even take a martial arts class. Whatever it is, I want to stay active.
This is the conclusion of my first blog post. I hope that I can blog about my teaching and adventures and post pictures to keep you all updated. I'll try my best! <3
